Talented Fujifilm Street Photographers in 2024

If you’re reading this blog then you probably already know that the Fujifilm camera system is synonymous with street photography. That’s not to say that every great street photographer is using Fujifilm, but for many it’s the go to brand for this genre of photography owing to the intuitive menu system, the retro style dials and the broad array of lenses which create fantastic images. Let’s also not forget, they’re great fun to use!

So who are some of the best Fujifilm street photographers today in 2024? This is of course very subjective, but in my opinion you should definitely follow these Fujifilm street photographers on Instagram. They are all talented in their own individual right, but two things they all have in common are that their images demonstrate great use of colour and composition. So in no particular order….

Bal Bhatla @mrwhisper

Bal Bhatla known as Mr Whisper on Instagram is a street photographer based in London. Before becoming a photographer he worked as a Creative Director for several ad agencies and after some big brands started to notice his work he took up photography full time. As you can see from Mr Whisper’s Instagram account, his images mainly consist of vibrant night time shots from areas such as Soho and the West End, as well as featuring candid shots on London’s different modes of transport such as buses and the London Underground. Mr Whisper has an amazing talent for colour grading giving his night time images a very striking and punchy look. He has used the Fujifilm X-T series, from the original X-T1 right up to the current X-T5 along with lenses such as the 35mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.2. Craig Whitehead @sixstreetunder

Although not currently a Fujifilm shooter, if you look at any of Craig’s classic images there’s a good chance they were shot using a Fujifilm X-Pro2 and the 56mm f1.2 lens. Based in Cambridge Craig studied illustration at university and has managed to transfer those skills into producing fantastic looking street photography. He has an eye for detail and is able to capture images in a way that creates unusual and interesting compositions through the use of reflections, layering and sub-framing as well as great use of colour. His influences include the street photography greats such as Saul Leiter and Ernst Haas as well as more recent photographers such as Jack Davison. Craig has just released a book called ‘Find Your Frame: A Street Photography Masterclass’, which I can highly recommend. You can also visit his website at www.sixstreetunder.com

Matt Hall @the13thsecond

Matt Hall is another street photographer who captures fantastic images using layering and sub-framing. Matt is based in Margate, Kent, however just like many other great street photographers he originates from Cambridge which is where many of his great images were taken. Matt’s weapon of choice is usually the Fujifilm X-Pro3 along with the 56mm f1.2 lens which enables him to isolate subjects and create amazing compositions. Rather than just take an image of a person walking down the street, Matt will bring in as many elements as possible to make an interesting and unusual shot. I was fortunate enough to attend one of Matt’s workshops back in June 2023 to learn these techniques which was great fun and actually changed the way I photograph to this day. You can read more about it here. You can also visit Matt’s website at www.the13thsecond.co.uk

Andrea Pozzoni @piratasabrino

Andrea Pozzoni is a street photographer from Sondrio, Italy. who is known for his stunning images often featuring light and shadows, with silhouetted subjects. He has a knack of creating dream like images with minimalist, but vibrant colours contrasted with geometry shaped backgrounds. Andrea’s camera choice is the Fujifilm X-T30 paired with a 18-55mm f2.8 lens and doesn’t go anywhere without it. He has received recognition for his fantastic work after becoming a finalist in the LensCulture Street category 2023. You can visit Andrea’s website by going to www.andreapozzoni.com

David Shortland @shorty.shots

David is an Irish street photographer who has been based in London since 2010. He makes his images pop by using minimalist compositions with great use of colour and you can see from his captures how he’s influenced by the old school greats such as Saul Leiter and Ernst Haas. There are also some elements of abstraction in there which make you want to keep scrolling and scrolling through his Instagram feed. David has previously worked in Film and TV production as well as graphic design and you can see some of those creative influences in his images. He uses a Fujifilm X-T3 and tends to opt for the longer lenses such as the Viltrox 56mm f1.4 and even the Fujifilm 90mm f2. David has recently been nominated in the Street category for the British Photography Awards for the image bottom left, more details can be found here and his website can be found by going to davidshortland.co.uk

Joshua Edgoose @spicy.meatball

Joshua Edgoose or Spicy Meatball as he’s know on Instagram is a South West London based street photographer who is well known for his very vibrant use of colour and clever and interesting compositions. Although Joshua hasn’t always been aligned with a particular camera brand he has more recently focused on using the Fujifilm system with an X-Pro3 being his go to street photography camera and a Fujifilm GFX 50S for more documentary style photography. He also uses an X-T4 for video. Joshua also runs the Frame Lines YouTube channel, along with co-host Shane Taylor, another London based street photographer.. Eren Sarigul @erenjam

Eren Sarigul is another London based street photographer who specialises in creating moody night street images mainly in areas such as Soho, but is also renowned for his travel photography in cities such as Tokyo and Istanbul. In fact his work has been published by Trope in the book ‘Across Japan’ released in 2021. He has also featured in the book ‘Streets of London’, by Mendo which I have a copy of and I highly recommend. Eren has always been fully engaged with the Fujifilm system and his work has been produced with both the X-T and X-Pro series with his latest images being captured using a Fujifilm X-T5. Morten Andresen @morten.clicks

Morten Andresen is a street photographer based in Oslo, Norway and is renowned for his vibrant and colourful images featuring light and shadow. He’s only been shooting since 2018, but you would never have guessed it after scrolling through his Instagram account where his images demonstrate fantastic use of colour and a minimalist style of composition. His Fujifilm camera of choice is the X-T30 and his lenses include the 33mm f1.4 and 35mm f1.4 and also sometimes the 56mm f1.2. You can view Morten’s website by visiting www.mortenclicks.com

Mark Fearnley @mark.fearnley

Mark Fearnley is known as a fine art street photographer owing to his aesthetically pleasing candid images and stunning use of light and shadow. Just like many other street photographers on this list he is London based, although he also travels and has photographed cities far and wide such as Berlin, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Many of Mark’s images feature amazing contrast with muted tones, many just black and white, often with the subject far away in the distance, however don’t let this fool you into thinking he’s a one trick pony. He also demonstrates fantastic use of colour and composition, sometimes close to the subject through windows (as in the image below right), giving a beautiful painterly feel. Mark regularly hosts his fine art workshops where students can learn tips and techniques and he emphasises the fact that you can still use a basic phone camera and still come away with fantastic results. To find out more information on Mark’s workshops, visit his website at markfearnley.co.uk

Valérie SIX @valeriesixlouis

Valérie SIX is an award winning French photographer based in Nice in the south of France and her images demonstrate amazing use of colour and composition. They also feature complex reflections and layers, often causing the viewer to need time to process what is actually going on. Many of Valérie’s shots feature fantastic use of light and shadow, as do many street photographers, however there is just something magical in her images which sets them apart from others. Valérie’s website can be found at www.valeriesix.com

So that completes the list of some of the best Fujifilm street photographers around today. Please comment below if you disagree or feel that anyone should be added to this list.
